On July 23, Cyprus experienced a devastating wildfire that will never be forgotten. And it shouldn’t be—for our most important task now is not only to deal with the consequences, but also to learn lessons, draw the right conclusions, and correct the mistakes that cost us all so much.
❤️ At the same time, the tragedy showed how strong, united, and caring our community has become on the island in recent years! The amount of support and involvement has been incredible—words can hardly describe it!
❗️ Yet, we also witnessed firsthand the shortcomings in how state services respond to natural disasters and their aftermath.
Taking both of these points together, we decided it is essential to gather and jointly work through the following questions:
- How can we most effectively and directly support the victims—those who still need help? (Assistance is coming, but it’s too chaotic and fragmented.)
- How can we restore life on the burned land? (We need to think about new plantings and strengthen fire prevention measures.)
- How can we develop clear and practical action plans for the future, in case disaster strikes again? (Everyone must know what to do and how to act.)
🙌 We invite all caring people who are ready to contribute their help, ideas, and resources—everyone who wants to be part of this common and vital cause.
Representatives of charitable foundations will also attend the meeting.
🗓 Monday, August 25, 18:00. SASH Bar
P.S. We only have each other—come and let’s make our home even better and safer! 🏡
