On August 28, a coordination meeting was held in Limassol, organized by Green Shield and the You Reforest Cyprus initiative. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the first steps for restoring burned areas in the Limassol mountains.
The meeting was attended by community leaders from Souni–Zanatzia and Vouni, environmental organizations, permaculture specialists, the Green Party of Cyprus, and volunteers.
Key points agreed during the discussion:
- Site Visits and Assessments – Experts will visit areas proposed by the community councils to record needs and prepare a proper restoration plan.
- Permaculture Input – Specialists will provide recommendations for sustainable projects and organize training workshops for community members.
- Soil Preparation – Work will be carried out to improve soil quality in selected areas.
- Tree Planting – Tree planting will take place between late November and early January, with trees provided free of charge through the You Reforest Cyprus program.
Council President and other representatives of our community are now coordinating with the organizers to finalize which locations in our area will be included in the first stage of the project.
